Dowagiac Spiker Volleyball will hold a sign up from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Dowagiac Union High School.
This is the third year of the Dowagiac Spiker Volleyball program. The program is the developmental program to Dowagiac junior high and senior high volleyball program. We would like to give every student in the grade school an opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of volleyball.
There are two levels of play, third- and fourth-grade, and fifth- and sixth-grade. Participants will be trained in the fundamentals of the game of volleyball, including serving, passing, hitting and setting.
Practice will start the week of Sept. 28 and the season will end Nov. 21. Matches will be played on Saturdays in Niles against other area schools.
Dowagiac Union High School varsity volleyball coach Rachel Zeider and the varsity players will be hosting a free volleyball clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 26.
All third through sixth grade students from the Dowagiac Middle School, Sister Lakes, Justus Gage, Patrick Hamilton and Kincheloe elementaries are invited to attend.
Parents are also needed to help coach the teams. Training will be provided to volunteer coaches to enable them to train the athletes with proper fundamentals of the game. No previous experience is necessary.
Cost for the program are $35 per player.
