The Niles tennis team will open its season at the Vicksburg Invitational today.

The Vikings will compete against the host Bulldogs, Coldwater, Bridgman, Portage Northern, Battle Creek Harper Creek, Mattawan and Jackson Parma Western.

There will be four singles and four doubles flights and all matches will be decided by a best-of-three format.

Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place teams as well as medals for all flight champions.

The Vikings finished fourth in last year’s tournament behind champion Coldwater, runner-up Portage Northern and third place finisher Parma Western.

 

Bronson Invitational

The Niles volleyball team will compete in its second invitational in as many days as it heads to Bronson Saturday.

The Vikings play at Gull Lake in the Blue Devil Invitational Friday.

The round-robin pool play will have the Niles facing North Adams at 8:30 a.m. and then Comstock, Homer host Bronson in its final three matches.

Each match will be decided by a best-of-three sets with no point caps.

The top four teams will then be seeded into the single elimination second phase of the tournament.

The champion and runner-up will receive trophies.

Admission is $5 per person and concessions will be available.
