BUCHANAN, Mich. — The Buchanan Art Center board of directors recently announced that they are seeking a new executive director to lead the center on a part-time (20 hour a week) basis.
Janet Flahaven-Law, outgoing executive director, announced her departure in early July, and stepped down from her official role as executive director on July 31.
Citing concerns at the center’s ability to continue to sustain a salaried, full-time executive director position, Flahaven-Law provided the BAC board of directors with her recommendations for restructuring the center, including reducing the executive director role to a part-time position, and reducing the center’s operating hours.
Expressing interest in possibly returning to the BAC at a later date in a board capacity, Flahaven-Law extended the offer to stay on through August in a pro bono administrative role, until the voard could meet for their scheduled meeting on August 13, to consider options.
Options approved in the Aug. 13 board meeting were:
• Reduce hours for executive director position to 20 hours per week
• Close the center Mondays (excluding scheduled classes and gallery installations)
• Reduce weekday operating hours from the previous 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. schedule, to a 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule
• Close at 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
These approved changes go into effect Sept. 8.
Information and a detailed job description for the part-time executive director position has been posted on the center’s website: www.buchananartcenter.org and Facebook page.
Resumes are being accepted via email only to: pres.bac@att.net until 5 p.m. Aug. 24. Candidate interviews will begin Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The Buchanan Art Center hopes to fill the position by Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015.
The Buchanan Art Center is located at 117 West Front St. in Buchanan.
The center features three galleries with rotating exhibits of regional artists’ works, a program of educational art classes for all ages, and a gift shop offering works of local artists.
More information, including a schedule of classes, can be obtained at the center or by visiting the website atbuchananartcenter.org.
