Up with the times, or is it timeless?

As I read “A Difficult Choice,” (lead story of the July 16 Cassopolis Vigilant), I was struck more with the lack of respect for order/authority than the issue of sexual preference.  After all, a person’s sex life is between God and the individual.

The lack of order/authority affects groups of people, as well as the individual’s relationship with God. Why would a reverend allow himself to be ordained into a denomination that is contrary to his beliefs? Were there not other denominations that could have been a better fit?

“Hutchison said he was well aware of the doctrine, but feels it is contrary to what the Methodist Church stands for.”

What does that mean? I am well aware of the speed limits within the village of Cassopolis, but if I feel that it is contrary to what the village stands for, and if I rise above those limits, the police have the full authority to present me with a citation.

Likewise, the Methodist leadership has the full authority to remove a rogue pastor.

We can all rejoice in the good things happening at the church and look forward to greater things in our community.  We all need to be careful to build on a true foundation.

We want to be a truthful example for the next generation, because their life choices will be between God and themselves alone. An untrue clock that is five minutes slow can cause us to be late or miss appointments. Likewise the lack of order/authority can convey the unimportance of such to the next generation.

May God help us to be in His time, and us not to set our own clock.
