A toddler who was found unresponsive in a pool in Niles Township Thursday evening has died.

Marius Criglear, 2, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at Memorial Hospital in South Bend just before 2 p.m. Saturday, July 4, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a child that was not breathing after he was found in a pool around 7:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Stateline Road in Berrien County.

Police arrived and started CPR until SMCAS ambulance arrived on the scene. The sheriff’s department originally reported that the young boy was in critical condition Memorial Hospital.

The victim and his mother are from South Bend and were visiting a relative’s house when the child was found in the pool.

Authorities still have not said how the child got into the pool.
