Slim down this summer

Like most, you’re probably searching for a solution to shed a few winter pounds or tone up those arms that have been hiding under sweaters all winter long.
It is time to pull out the tank tops, shorts and bathing suits and get ready for the beach, family reunions, baseball games and other summer shenanigans.
So how do you get your self summer ready? Here are some summer slimdown tips that can help you look and feel great this summer.
To set yourself up for success you should find something that motivates you. Maybe an encouraging self pep talk, joining a weight-loss group, participating in a fitness challenge, reading health and fitness magazines can ignite the spark.
Ask yourself what you’re willing to do to make a difference and next, why is it so important to you?
Setting goals for yourself is key. Goals give you focus, allow you to measure progress and keep you accountable. Choose one goal and set a deadline.
Once you have your main goal then you can build small goals into your vision that move you towards that No. 1 goal. For instance if your No. 1 goal is to fit into last years summer clothes, then the goals to move you forward would be specific; change eating habits (what’s this look like?) exercise regularly (how much?) and get enough rest (how many hours per night?). Once you’ve made a plan of action it’s time to jump ship and sail.
You’ve made the commitment to improve your health but you’re slightly unsure what exercise program to follow or what trending diet to choose from (not recommended). You’re not alone. If you’re new to exercise, just start somewhere and start off simple. If you’re already working out, increase your intensity or workouts per week.
According to American College of Sports Medicine, it is recommended that the average adult gets 130 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per week, adults should train each major muscle group two or three days each week using a variety of exercises and equipment and don’t forget about flexibility getting two to three days in each week to increase range of motion.
If you lose motivation or start losing hope, refocus on that No. 1 goal. Re-ask yourself those questions from the beginning; “What am I willing to do to make a difference? Why is this important to me? Believe in yourself, you can do this if you will.
Here are some simple starting points to jumpstart your summer slimdown plan;
• Eat less sugar
• Add lemon to your water and stay hydrated
• Get your beauty rest
• Fill up on fiber
• Move your body
• Eat your veggies
