Host Cassopolis edged Brandywine 2-1 in a BCS Athletic Conference non-divisional soccer match Thursday.
The Bobcats’ Jaleesa Garner opened the scoring midway through the first half.
The Rangers responded when Kortenei Suggs crossed the ball to onrushing Lotte Pederson who found the back of the net with 10 minutes remaining in the opening half.
Cassopolis got the winning goal in the 56th minute when Melody Cutting fed a pass Marissa Waldschmidt, who scored from 35-yards out.
“The Bobcats have become a formidable foe that seems to bring out the best in us,” Cassopolis coach Oli Olafsson said. “They play beautiful soccer and their young midfield and defense will be a force to be reckoned with in the near future.”
Brandywine and Cassopolis could face each other again Saturday at the VanDenBerg Invitational being hosted by the Bobcats and Niles High School.
The Rangers will face the Vikings at 10 a.m., while Brandywine will take on Buchanan at 10 a.m.
The winners will compete for the championship at noon at Niles High School, while the consolation match will be held at noon at Brandywine.
