STURGIS — The Dowagiac boys and girls track teams did not figure prominently in the final standings at the Wolverine Conference Championships at Sturgis Friday, but that does not mean that they did not enjoy success.

In fact, three individuals brought home conference championships — Nijah Russell, Tristan Howard and Caleb Zimmerman.

Vicksburg won the girls team championship with 107 points. Three Rivers was second with 91.

Edwardsburg placed eighth with 51 points and Dowagiac 10th with 26 points.

Russell captured the 200-meters with a time of 26.67 and was second in the 100-meters with a time of 12.90.

Edwardsburg’s 3,200-meter relay team of Natalie Longo, Brynn Ritchey, Amelia Montgomery and Aubrey Ritchey was second with a time of 10:35.71.

Sturgis won the boys championship with 115.5 points. Vicksburg was second with 99. Dowagiac was ninth with 33 points and Edwardsburg was 12th with 10.5 points.

Howard won the discus with a toss of 47-10.5. Zimmerman won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.48.

Dowagiac’ Leroy Lewis was second in the high jump with a height of 5-9.
