John Recer Hoinville, 85, of Niles, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1930, in South Bend, Indiana to the late John R. and Helen S. (Spensely) Hoinville. He was a graduate of Cassopolis High School and Michigan State University. After college John wed Rose Ellen Ruark and from that union four children were born; Julia, Laurie, John and Jay. On June 16, 1974, John married Clare M. Gardiner at a ceremony in Franklin, Michigan. During his lifetime John had a variety of careers including owning and operating: the Cassopolis Dairy, a small chain of convenience stores, and Stained Glass Works. In retirement he found great joy in wood turning bowls and vases. In addition to his hobbies, he loved to ski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Judy Hayden, and his daughter Julia Hoinville.
John is survived by his wife, Clare Hoinville of Niles, a daughter, Laurie J. (Edward) Heyden of South Bend, twin sons, Jay R. (Jane) Hoinville of Kalamazoo and John D. (Lisa) Hoinville of Beverly Hills, Michigan, and two sisters, Janet Brezen of Dowagiac and Jean Pascoe of Carmel, Indiana, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Morris Chapel at 1560 Morris Drive, in Niles. A time of visitation will begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the chapel.
