Three Rivers went 2-0 to win the Chieftain Invitational soccer tournament Saturday.

The Wildcats defeated Cassopolis 3-2 in the second round of the round robin tournament and then blanked hosted Dowagiac 3-0 to win the title.

The Rangers defeated the Chieftains 2-1 in the first round.

Despite the losses, Dowagiac coach Ryan Haines was encouraged by his team’s effort.

“The best two games of the year thus far for us defensively,” he said. “We made some changes to our lineups and liked what we saw. Eventually we got tired in the second half of the Three Rivers game, our girls had been outside in the sun for nearly five hours at that point. We are continuing to get better, we just have to put the ball in the back of the net.”

In the Cassopolis game, Marissa Waldschmidt and Lotte Pederson scored for the Rangers.

Drew Andrade scored the lone goal for the Chieftains. Mara Nelson was credited to the assist.

Dowagiac is back in action Wednesday when it travels to South Haven for a Wolverine Conference West Division game.
