The Brandywine softball team had several good at-bats Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep of New Buffalo.
The most impressive came from Kelly Harper, Makenna Hartline and Chelsie Luczkowski, who each homered as the Bobcats won each game, 15-0.
“Out of my starting nine, seven can do that,” said Brandywine softball coach Ron Hartline about his team’s home run power. “When they do it I’m glad, but I’m not shocked.”
Harper and Makenna Hartline each hit a three-run homer in an eight-run first inning in the opener. The Bobcats added four runs in the second and three in the third with Makenna Hartline’s RBI single giving Brandywine a mercy-rule win. Ayrlynn Lasane went 3-for-3 with three RBI’s for Brandywine.
Winning pitcher Hannah Hadden allowed no baserunners and struck out three over two innings.
In game two, Luczkowski’s grand slam highlighted a seven-run first inning for Brandywine. Her RBI single in the third gave the Bobcats another mercy-rule win.
The hosts scored six runs in the second with Michaela Hartline delivering a two-run single.
“The thing that impressed me the most was the way we rebounded after the loss last weekend to Buchanan (8-0) at Comstock,” Ron Hartline said. “That was a pretty devastating loss. The girls were on a high after beating Berrien Springs on Friday and beating Comstock and Kalkaska on Saturday. We kind of got kicked in the teeth in the Buchanan loss. We just didn’t hit.”
