Niles’ Flick finishes third in Division 2

AUBURN HILLS — Four Niles wrestlers placed in the top eight at the Division 2 MHSAA Individual State Wrestling Championships at The Palace of Auburn Hills this weekend.
The Viking contingent was led by sophomore Andrew Flick, who placed third after blanking Gilbraltar-Carlson’s Brandon Proudlock 11-0 in the consolation finals.
Flick finishes the year at 31-4.
Senior Noah Hall (41-7) finished sixth after being pinned by Jordan Hall of Lowell at 135-pounds.
Sophomore Brenden Hall (37-12) was seventh at 125-pounds as he won by injury default over Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg’s Chris Poland.
Senior Josh Dayhuff (41-9) finished eighth as he was defeated by St. John’s Trent Lashuay 7-4 at 119-pounds.
Also in Division 2, Edwardsburg’s Michael Higley placed third as he defeated Dylan Wilkins of Sparta 3-0 in the 103-pound consolation finals.
It was the third consecutive year Higley (47-6) has placed at the state finals.
In Division 4, Brandywine’s Charlie Rodriguez finished eighth and Cassopolis’ Tymari Brown placed fifth.
Rodriguez (39-11) was pinned by Lutheran Westland’s Thomas Krueger.
Brown (41-6) defeated Marti/Climax-Scotts’ Ethan Simmons 3-1 in overtime.
