Lack of effort wasn’t the reason Brandywine’s wrestling team lost to Bronson on Wednesday.

Depth was the difference as the Vikings beat the Bobcats, 44-33, in B.C.S. Athletic Conference action.

In its second match at the quad meet, Brandywine rolled past an outmanned Colon squad, 66-10.

“We don’t have a full lineup,” said Brandywine wrestling coach Rex Pomranka. “(Bronson) is the best team in the conference. We went toe-to-toe with them. We lost to them by 11 and we gave them two weight classes (because of forfeits).

“The matches we were suppose to win, we won, and we had some upsets there. I can’t complain about anything in that match. That was a great match. Our kids were doing what we asked them to do. We’re improving. Our kids stepped it up. Bronson was worried a little bit.”

The Bobcats took a 33-32 lead after 103-pounder Michael Kachur recorded a pin over Eian DePaz in 1:17.

Bronson won by forfeit at 112 pounds and got a pin from Jacob Butters in the final two matches.

Brandywine got pins in the match from 130-pounder Jesse Lochmondy, 135-pounder Ryan Buchar, 140-pounder Markell Peterson and 160-pounder Kristian Hertsel. Peterson pin gave the Bobcats an 18-3 lead.

“Kristian Hertsel’s win at 160 (against Bronson) was a big win for us,” Pomranka said. “(Bronson wrestler Mykal) Kline is a tough kid. It was a whole team effort tonight. Everybody is improving and that’s all we want.”

Colon brought only five wrestlers to Brandywine. Along with getting eight wins by forfeit, the Bobcats got pins from Peterson at 135 pounds, 215-pounder Charlie Rodriguez and 285-pounder Aaron Casto.

“We’ve shown that we’ve come a long way since the beginning of the year,” Pomranka said. “We want to keep the momentum going and take it into the postseason,” Pomranka said.
