A pair of wins, including a Wolverine Conference West Division match led Dowagiac coach Matt Alward with a smile on his face Wednesday night.

The Chieftains defeated West Division foe Paw Paw 64-21 before knocking off cross-county rival Cassopolis 61-18.

“It is nice to start off 2-0 and it is nice to start off with a conference win,” Alward said. “My 130-pounder Shawn Sirk is out with an injury and hopefully we get him back next week. Scott Hassle is still working to get down to 152 and hopefully he will be there for Saturday, so there is still some ammo in the tank.”

Earning two wins on the night for the Chieftains were Kody Walker (103), Gage Williams (112), Josh Jessup (119), Aubrey Huston (145), Caleb Sands (160) and Tristan Howard (285).

Earn wins for the Rangers were Colin Kelley (125), Austin Green (189) and Tymari Brown 215.

Dowagiac will head to Vicksburg on Saturday for the Bulldog’s annual team tournament. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.
