GARY, Indiana — After defeating the IU Northwest Redhawks at home, the Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball team traveled to Gary for the second game of the season series.
The Titans could not find an answer for the IUN offense as they fell, 73-62 on Tuesday night.
The Redhawks were in control from the tip as they scored the first points of the game and never looked back. The Titans fell behind quickly, 18-4, and then used a 10-2 run to get back into the game.
The offense continued to score, but IU South Bend could not get the stops they needed on the defensive end of the court. Nichole Sly, of Niles got the Titans within two points with just under five minutes to play in the first half, but the Redhawks closed the half out with a 10-3 run to take a 38-29 lead into the break.
It was all the same for the Titans in the second half, falling down as many as 18 points but slowly managed to crawl back into the game. Six points was as close as IU South Bend would get to the IU Northwest lead as the Redhawks pulled away in the final minutes for an 11 point victory.
Maegan Callaway and Paige Avery each finished with 13 points leading the Titans. Callaway added a team-high 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Courtney Smith was the other Titan in double figures with 10 points
The Titans finished 9-of-23 from beyond the arc and 24-of-69 from the field.
