Bobcats’ Harrell second at BCS jamboree

The Brandywine boys cross country team doesn’t have depth.
What the Bobcats do have is a runner with plenty of potential in junior James Harrell.
Harrell showed off some of his talent Tuesday at BCS Athletic Conference Cross Cross Country Jamboree.
Harrell, whose school has only three male runners, placed second with a time of 17:56. Bridgman’s Brian Njuguna finished first with a time of 17:14. The Bees were also the top boys team with 30 points.
“I did better than I did in my last conference meet,” said Harrell, who finished fifth two weeks at a league meet at Riverview Park in St. Joseph. “It means, hopefully, I’m getting better because I’m putting the work in.
“My coach (Jim Murray) has been talking to me about not getting into a slump so at the beginning I made a real effort to go with the leader. I stayed with (Njuguna) for quite a ways. (Njuguna) is a really good competitor.”
Mendon won the girls meet with 57 points. The Hornets were led by Mary Leighton, who finished first with a time of 21:11. Amy Adams from Cassopolis finished eighth with a time of 23:28.
