A diesel fuel spill caused a portion of South Third Street in Niles Township to be closed to traffic for several hours Thursday.
The spill occurred when a car hit a dump truck at the intersection of Third and Ontario around 10:28 a.m., according to Niles Township Fire Chief Gary Brovold.
The dump truck’s fuel tank ruptured as a result of the accident, causing 40 to 50 gallons of fuel to spill onto the roadway and surrounding area.
No one was injured in the accident.
Brovold said they had to call a licensed waste hauler to clean up the mess and take it away.
Third Street was closed from Ontario to Brook Street as crews from the Niles Township Fire Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and Berrien County Road Commission worked the scene.
