St. Joseph missed a sweep of the Viking Stampede at the Dowagiac Middle School on Friday.

The Bears held down the top three positions in the boys race heading into the trails, but was unable to maintain that advantage over Northridge, which also got some help from Watervliet.

In the end, Northridge edged St. Joseph 38-45 with Watervliet finishing third with 50 points. Lakeshore was fourth with 121, Niles fifth with 129, Dowagiac sixth with 169 and Buchanan seventh with 211.

The Bears were able to hold off Northridge 27-34 to win the girls race, while Watervliet again finished third with 92 points. Host Niles was fifth with 136 points and Buchanan sixth with 183.

St. Joseph’s Tanner Rydleski was the overall winner in the boys race with a time of 16:50 on a very warm and humid afternoon.

Niles’ top finisher was Devin Tomlinson, who was seventh with a time of 18:34. Dowagiac’s DeYonte Sullivan was 16th with a time of 19:29.35.
