Charles B. Waldron, 90, of Niles passed away on Nov. 7, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Mishawaka, Ind., following an illness.
Charles was born to the late Fremont and Marie (Coats) Waldron in Albion, Ind. on May 17, 1923.
After graduating from high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy where he served our county proudly during WWII. He was present during the Battles of Saipan, Tinian, Guam and Iwo Jima and also defended our county during the Korean War. Charles enlisted in the Navy and was attached to the Marine Corps as a Marine Corpsman.
On Sept. 15, 1945 he married the love of his life, Peggy Roberson at a ceremony in South Bend. She preceded him in death 1998.
Charles worked at Simplicity Pattern from 1941 until 1983, except for when serving in the armed forces.
Before being widowed, Charles loved to travel with his wife Peggy. They had an extensive list of cities, states and foreign countries where they traveled together. He was also an avid newspaper contributor and was up-to-date on local, national and international current events. He was an avid jogger and enjoyed being outdoors. After retirement Charles obtained his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying locally.
Preceding Charles in death are his parents, his wife and his brother, Earl Waldron.
Surviving Charles are his two sons Michael (Trudy) Waldron of Niles, and Patrick (Wendy) Waldron of Turnersburg, NC. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Nicholas Waldron, Geoffrey Waldron, Amy Waldron and Melissa Graham.
Services will be on Wednesday Nov. 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Slate officiating. A time of visitation will be Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Military honors will be conducted at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
