“Tasting and Touring Michigan’s Homegrown Food” by Jaye Beeler

The author of this book of Michigan-grown culinary delights indulges the reader with intimate accounts of the experts who grow them. The accompanying photographer gives the reader a visual treat that complements the book’s message. The two factors elaborately lay out a photography and narrative feast of food-creating sources in Michigan. The author beckons the reader to come along on this journey as her book unfolds in its many layers. The book’s contents commence with the naturally prepared food experiences in which consumers can shop and enjoy.
“From the Field” details how these agricultural artists cultivate and grow the vegetation, “From the Orchard” details how various kinds of fruit are grown, “From the Water” explains the waterways that give us fresh seafood. “From the Dairy Barn,” we learn about how Michigan proudly displays its dairy heritage and how to handle the output of products in a most natural way. “From the Barnyard” explains how Michigan’s herdspeople care for their livestock and barnyard animals in a natural and humane setting.  “From the Market” enables green food shoppers to meet the growers who sell the region’s culinary delights. From the markets, the food makes its way to area restaurants, kitchen stores and vineyards. “From the Kitchen” features the local suppliers who service Michigan’s eateries and restaurants. The “Recipes” section tempts the reader to try the delicious culinary products of these home-grown venues.
