CASSOPOLIS — A contract for Howard Township police coverage was approved April 18 by the Cass County Board of Commissioners.
The agreement with the Sheriff’s Office costs Howard Township $70,925 for 40-hour coverage.
Given fluctuation in fuel prices, any costs incurred over the estimated budget will be the township’s responsibility.
Primary police areas when calls for service are not being handled are speed enforcement — primarily Barron Lake Road — liquor inspections, noise and commercial vehicles.
The agreement runs until March 31, 2014, although the parties have the right to terminate it with 30 days written notice.
Howard Supervisor Dale Lowe and Clerk Sheri Wozniak signed the contract March 28.
