Greenbush Brewing Co. to release Sunspot

Greenbush Brewing Company in Sawyer is releasing its spring and summer seasonal beer, Sunspot, beginning April 1. The wheat beer will be available on draft at restaurants and bars and in bottles at craft beer retailers across the state.
“We have to have it on draft,” said Cody Allee, Assistant Food and Beverage Director at The Marina and Harbor Grand hotels in New Buffalo. “It’s one of those little reminders that good weather and good times are on their way. Like watermelon, barbecues and sunscreen, Sunspot has become another necessary member of the family of yearly summertime experiences.”
Sunspot is a German-style Hefeweizen with an ABV of 6 percent and a low bitterness of 15 IBUs (international bittering units). The brew shines as a full-bodied, unfiltered wheat beer with a crisp, light sweetness and distinct banana and clove aroma.
“When we opened in 2011, Sunspot was meant to be a quick one-off. But that summer, it took off like wildfire, and, last spring and summer, bars and restaurants in Michigan, Chicago and Indiana continued to go crazy for it,” said Jill Sites, co-owner of Greenbush Brewing Co. “We are thrilled to watch that trend continue and think that the launch of bottles will make customers that much more excited about the summer specialty this year.”
Greenbush will be hosting a Sunspot release party at The Buck Burgers & Brew in St. Joseph on April 15. The event is slated to begin at 5 p.m. — right after income taxes need to be postmarked — and will go through the evening. Brewery staff will be on hand to talk about the beer.
