Athletes can participate in the 10th annual Labor Day tradition of the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Run by registering for the lottery. Selected participants will be one of 500 runners and wheeling athletes leading the way across the Mackinac Bridge as the sun rises on Sept. 1, 2013.
The Bridge Run is a five mile noncompetitive run organized by the governor’s office, the Michigan Fitness Foundation and the Mackinac Bridge Authority. This is not a timed event, and the course will not be certified for distance. Participating individuals will be selected from the lottery drawing in June. In an effort to include more inspiring athletes that have participated in a Pure Michigan FITness Series event, the Michigan Fitness Foundation will once again select 500 runners from the lottery.
“Michigan has a strong running community, and we are pleased to offer this unique opportunity to 500 inspiring athletes. These runners help us illustrate the importance of physical activity as well as the importance of having place to be active,” said Marilyn Lieber, president and CEO of the Michigan Fitness Foundation.

Of the 500 participants in the event, 12 individuals will be chosen to act as “fitness ambassadors.” In addition to receiving special recognition at the Bridge Run, ambassadors serve as role models for developing a healthy lifestyle through a commitment to physical activity.
In order to qualify for the lottery, entrants must be 18 years old by Sept. 1, 2013, be able to complete a five mile run and have participated in a Pure Michigan FITness Series endorsed event. Hundreds of endorsed events across the state can e found at http://www.michiganfitness.org/pure-michigan-fitness-series.
The Michigan Fitness Foundation envisions a physically educated population with the knowledge and skills to enjoy a healthy, vigorous and safe lifestyle in communities designed to support physical activity.
