The Cassopolis Board of Education at its Feb. 25 meeting approved the hiring of Joanne Hayes as its school nurse through a grant.

Hayes, who works at Cassopolis Family Clinic, will spend five hours per day split between Sam Adams Elementary and Ross Beatty High School.

She has been a nurse since 1982 and has worked at the clinic since 2006.

She is originally from Portage, but has lived in Dowagiac for the last 20 years.

“It keeps you busy,” Hayes said. “Every day I go home with an interesting story.”
