Michalene “Mickie” Smith, 72, of Galien, passed away on Feb. 22, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
Mickie was born on Nov. 3, 1940, to Sigmund and Angeline Koziel in Chicago. On May 7, 1960, Mickie married Larry Smith in Rolling Prairie, Ind. She was a dedicated wife, mother and Nani, that devoted her life to filling ours with love and happiness. She loved everyone she met, including those at her craft shows for 30 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sigmund and Angeline Koziel; brother, Bernard Koziel; and sister, Annette Lashua.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Smith, of Galien; son, Scott Smith, of Three Oaks; two daughters, Juli (John) O’Bryant, of Buchanan, and Jeanne (Robert) Blank, of Niles; three brothers, John Koziel, of Galien, Richard Koziel, of Granger, Ind., and Joseph Koziel, of New Carlisle, Ind.; two sisters, Victoria Parrett, of Laporte, Ind., and Patricia Hemphill, of Coloma; four grandchildren, Jason O’Bryant and fiancé Mary Apanavicius, Jayme O’Bryant, Courtney (Matt) Eifler and Derek Blank; and her best friend, Bonnie DeLoof.
Memorial aervices to honor Mickie’s life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in Galien Cemetery at a later date.
