Team focusing on stretch runs

The high school boys basketball season is just past the midway point and it’s time for teams to start making adjustments for either a championship run or the state tournament.
Dowagiac holds a one-game lead over Edwardsburg in the Wolverine Conference West Division and has a two-game advantage on South Haven.
The Chieftains will wrap of the first round of games when they play a make-up contest at Three Rivers tonight. Dowagiac will then travel to South Haven Friday night to continue the second round of games.
The No. 2-ranked (Detroit Free Press) Chieftains are 10-1 overall and 5-0 in division play.
The Chieftains are the highest scoring team in the area with an average of 77 points per game. Dowagiac has poured in 851 points so far this season. The Chieftains are giving up 57 points per game.
Kozinski sets record
Edwardsburg improved to 9-3 Friday night with a 64-36 victory over host Three Rivers.
The Eddies’ Josh Kozinski scored 34 points to become the all-time leading scorer in Edwardsburg with 1,350 points.
Looking to get back on track
Niles begins its second run through the Big 16 West Division tonight when it hosts Portage Central.
Niles opened the season with a 48-41 loss to the Mustangs. The Vikings are currently 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the West. Niles has lost seven of its last eight games, including three straight.
Lakeland showdown
League-leading Buchanan will host Cassopolis in a key match-up Thursday night.
The Bucks are 4-0 in the league, while the Rangers are 1-2.
Cassopolis is one of the hottest teams in the area having won four of its last five games. During that stretch, the Rangers have scored 65 or more points in three of those contests.
