Dowagiac Union High School recognized 44 top-performing freshmen with academic excellence certificates.
These students earned all A’s and B’s in all of their classes.
“The transition from middle school to high school can sometimes be a challenge,” according to DUHS’s part-time student advocate, Col. Douglas C. Pearson. “These students excelled and school staff wanted to highlight their accomplishments.”
Pearson is a retired Air Force colonel who was a meteorologist in the military.
He is now part of a team that includes fulltime student advocate Danum Hunt, guidance counselor Randy Luthringer, Assistant Principal Kelly Millin and Principal Pieter Hoekstra.
