CASSOPOLIS — Mackenzie Shelton had 12 kills and 11 digs while Jessy Cooper added six kills and 16 assists as the Brandywine volleyball team made short work of the Cassopolis Rangers in its 3-1 (25-9, 25-14, 25-10) Lakeland Conference victory Wednesday.
Bobcat coach Carl Greulich was singing his team’s praises after the dominant performance.
“We obviously played very well tonight, we passed the ball well and our serves were on point. Everyone did a wonderful job,” he said.
The lopsided loss was a tough pill to swallow for the Rangers’ coach Ray Prestly and his seniors who were hoping the outcome on their “Senior Night” could’ve gone differently.
“It’s been kind of emotional with these girls and I think they came out and played hard but we didn’t get what we wanted,” Prestly said.
The match served as a preview to the beginning of the MHSAA playoffs where the two teams will square off in a rematch in the opening round of the districts.
“We now know what we need to look for and work toward for the next time around,” said Prestly.
Greulich said that his team’s efforts down the homestretch of their season would play a crucial role in their advancement toward the playoffs.
“We have to just come out and continue to play hard and run hard at every team we have from here on out,” he said.
Both teams return to action Tuesday as the Bobcats will host their “Senior Night” game against Dowagiac at 5:30 at home, while the Rangers return to action at 7:30 in Eau Claire.
