The city of Dowagiac entered into an easement agreement with SEMCO Energy Gas Company that will place a small structure at the waste water treatment plant off M-62.
During the regular meeting of the Dowagiac City Council Monday evening, City Manager Kevin Anderson explained the structure will be built on a concrete base and run a gas line through one of the buildings at the waster water treatment plant.
Anderson said because the gas line will run through city property, the easement agreement will allow for the structure. The value of the project is $2,500, for which SEMCO Energy is responsible.
“We priced this roughly two years ago,” Anderson said.
“It will give us the ability to save some cost, and it doesn’t interfere with any of our future work in that area.”
The council approved the easement agreement unanimously.
Anderson said the structure houses equipment that helps the gas company monitor and regular pressures of the connections.
“It’s one of those win-win situations again that the city has the opportunity to take advantage of,” Anderson said.
