CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis soccer team only scored a dozen goals last season.
With its 6-3 win over Watervliet Grace Christian Tuesday, the Rangers have already nearly 20 goals this season.
The win also squared Cassopolis’ record at 3-3.
“This team is coming together a bit,” Cassopolis coach Tony Catanzarite said. “We have six freshmen who are getting good minutes. We might not have as big of kids as some of the teams we are playing, but their soccer intelligence is the best I’ve had here in my three years. They are playing team soccer and are not trying to be the whole show.”
The Rangers spread the wealth around Monday with five different players netting a goal and two others getting assists.
In building a 3-1 halftime advantage, Cassopolis got a pair of goals from Vinny Sopaseuth (31st and 36th minute) and Shawn Teter, who opened the scoring in the sixth minute.
Garrett Green assisted on the Rangers’ opening goal of the half and Teter assisted on the final goal.
In the second half, Dylan Armstrong scored in the 46th minute to make it 4-1 and Cameron Hayden stretched Cassopolis’ advantage to 5-1 with a goal in the 56th minute.
Grace Christian cut the lead to 5-2 with a goal in the 69th minute before Collin Wright capped the scoring for the Rangers in the 70th minute off an assist by Peter Fiala.
