Dowagiac Bank of America to close Sept. 21

The Dowagiac branch of Bank of America, 114 Commercial St., is slated to close its doors Sept. 21.
The branch was formally a Standard Federal Bank location until Bank of America took it over. Customers of the bank who live in the greater Dowagiac area were mailed notifications of the bank location’s closing June 8. Per bank policy, customers must be given notice 90 days in advance.
“This is nothing new for the bank,” Diane Wagner, media relations manager for Bank of America, said. “Bank of America re-evaluates their areas and locations each year.”
According to Wagner, the nearest Bank of America branch is in Niles, 1903 S. 11th St.
Employees working at the Dowagiac branch are being assisted in relocation to other branches.
“The employees will be repurposed at another branch, possibly the Niles branch, or in other opportunities with the bank,” Wagner said.
Bank of America owns the building and land. Since the bank will no longer continue a presence in Dowagiac, it is selling the property. Bid details for the building can be viewed at www.bakingcentersforsale.com.
The deadline for bidding ends Aug. 7.
