Marva L. (Orth) Goodman, 57, of Niles, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Hospice House in Roseland, Ind., after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 9, 1954, in Michigan City, Ind., to the late Marvin and Georgia (Etter) Orth.

On Aug. 1, 2001, Marva married Howard Goodman at a ceremony in Niles. Marva worked for many years at Crowe Horwath in South Bend as a human resource assistant. She loved to crochet, needlepoint and was gifted in making jewelry and bead work.

Marva was a great friend to many and never forgot birthdays or anniversaries. She always gave of herself, unconditionally. She was a Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed watching horseracing. She loved watching NASCAR and was thrilled to receive a birthday card from her driver, Tony Stewart.  She loved being married to Howard and being a grandma. She will be missed by the countless lives she has touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Max Orth ;and a sister, Barbara James.

Marva is survived by her husband, Howard Goodman, of Niles; a son, Chris (Brandi) Martinez, of Niles; two grandchildren, Madison Dickie and Andreas Martinez; and a brother, Jack (Cindy) Orth.

A time of visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 29, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with funeral services at 1 p.m. A private interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City.
