Henning Schroder and Yu-Lien The perform at Krasl

The Krasl Art Center ‘s George Krasl Memorial Concert features saxophonist Henning Schroder and pianist Yu-Lien The at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the KAC Galleries.
The evening begins as a kickoff for preparations for the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff, which takes place July 14-15, and includes the unveiling of the fine art and publicity posters for the event. Schroder and The formed their duo in 1998, as students at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Hannover, Germany.
They have since performed throughout the world and presented new and rediscovered works at events such as the XIII World Saxophone Congress 2003 in Minneapolis.
Schroder has presented recitals at major venues and festivals throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and the United States.
He has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and classical as well as jazz ensembles of the German broadcast stations NDR, MDR and Radio Bremen.
Engagements with the Kalamazoo-based new music group Opus 21 have led to several premieres and performances at venues such as New York City›s Symphony Space, Zankel Hall at Carnegie and the opening concert of the 2009 annual conference of Chamber Music America.
Yu-Lien The has performed throughout Europe, Southeast-Asia and the U.S., including appearances as a soloist with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Kammerorchester Hannover and the Baroque Orchestra L’Arco. In 1996, she was a prizewinner at the 12th International Piano Competition Viotti-Valsesia (Italy) and received a scholarship from the Deutsche Musikwettbewerb in 1998.
