Vikings set two new school records

PORTAGE – Brandon Partee turned in a record-setting evening at the Big 16 West Division Championships at Portage Central Friday night.
The Niles senior set a new school record in finishing second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.80.
He was also a part of a new school record in the 800-meter relay. The Vikings took first place with the team of Partee, Ronnie Jones, Cicone Palmore and Quintin Irby. That group ran a time of 1:30.83.
Niles finished third overall at the championships. Portage Northern claimed the championship with 134.5 points. St. Joseph was second with 122 points and Niles third with 81 points.
The 800-meter relay was the only event the Niles boys team earned a first place finish in.
Graham Hoppstock took second in the 800-meters (2:00.35), Derek Scott was second in the shot put (45-7.5) and the Vikings were second in the 1,600-meter relay (3:31.35).
That squad consisted of Nick Knoll, Sean Craig, Irby and Anthony Bice.
The Niles girls team finished fifth on Friday.
St. Joseph was the team champion with 120 points. Portage Northern and Lakeshore finished second and third with scores of 109 and 100.5 respectively. The Vikings finished with 64 points.
Niles grabbed a pair of first place finishes in the field events.
Miranda Baker won the high jump with a height of 5-5 and Ashley Love won the long jump with a leap of 16-5.5.
Taylor Brandstatter was second in the 400-meters (1:00.74) and the she was part of the runner-up 800-meter relay team that ran a time of 1:48.52. Also on that team were Lashonda Green, Paige Chaffin and Love.
