The Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra (LMYO) will perform its annual Spring Concert at 4 p.m. May 13 at the Howard Performing Arts Center, 4160 E. Campus Circle Drive in Berrien Springs.
The concert will feature performances by the orchestra’s three ensembles — Youth Symphony, Concert Strings and Encore Strings — and will showcase concert-mistress Christine Server and principal oboist Bianca Kumar as soloists with the Youth Symphony. Server and Kumar successfully auditioned for the opportunity to be featured as concerto soloists earlier in the year. Server will perform the Zigeunerweisen “Gypsy Airs” Opus 20 by Pablo de Sarasate, and Kumar the 1st movement of the “Concerto for Oboe in C major” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Scholarships to summer music camps will be awarded at the concert and senior orchestra members will be recognized for their time and commitment to the Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and are available at the door.
The performance will be videotaped and recorded by TGA Recording of Benton Harbor for a collaboration with the Curious Kids’ Museum in St. Joseph.
