Buchanan softball splits with Edwardsburg

BUCHANAN – Host Buchanan earned a split with Edwardsburg in the Lakeland Conference softball opener for both teams Wednesday.
The Bucks (1-4, 1-1 Lakeland) won the opening game 5-4. The Eddies rallied to win the nightcap 16-9.
Kaitlynn Enders picked up the victory for Buchanan, while Briana Turnock drove in a pair of runs.
The Eddies (3-1, 1-1 Lakeland) got a single and a double from Teryn Williams and a triple from Kaley Frank.
Jill Blough took the loss for Edwardsburg.
In the nightcap, a 10-run fourth inning helped the Eddies gain the split. The second game was stopped after six innings due to darkness.
Andrea LaPlace earned the victory as she went the distance. Enders took the loss for Buchanan.
Brittney Hurst had three doubles for the Eddies, who also got two doubles from Rachel Morgan, Frank, who also doubled, and Morgan both finished with three hits.
Jayla Carrigan had four hits for the Bucks. Turnock added three hits, including a double.
