Scott Novak: Spring sports are on the way

I promise you that spring sports are on the way.
Even before we got to the first scheduled event, it seemed like summer was upon us for a week. But the real spring sports season gets under way in earnest next week.
We have had a few events here and there, but beginning today, we take a short pause for spring break.
There will be a couple of tournaments at the end of the week, but for the most part, we will not have any high school sports this week.
Perhaps by the time we get to the heart of the sports schedule the weather will cooperate.
After seeing temperatures in the 90s midway through March, the minute it was time to step outside and begin competition, it had turned much colder and windy.
I don’t expect every day to be in the mid-70s and sunny, but it sure would be nice to have some consistent temperatures.
My concern with cold temperatures at the beginning of the year is that they may lead to injuries.
Runners tend to pull muscles early in the season and pitchers can develop stiffness in their arms.
It would be nice to see the temperature stay in the high 60s or lower 70s when the schedule shifts into high gear.
It was an exciting winter on the local sports scene, but I am most definitely ready to get outside and begin our coverage of spring sports.
