Classes expose students to theatre

Youth from kindergarten to high school will have opportunities to explore the theater experience in South Bend Civic Theatre’s Warner Studio Theatre. These classes give kids skills in acting, musical theater and improvisation.
Classes begin the week of April 14 and run six weeks. All classes will be held in South Bend Civic Theatre’s Warner Studio Theatre, 403 N. Main Street, South Bend.

Ten-percent discounts will be given for registering for a second class during the session and for registering more than one child.

• Kindergarten and first grade: “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” – Stretching and using their imaginations, students will dance, sing and even make masks to create an animal family. This class starts April 14 and ends May 19 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. each Saturday. Cost is $75.
• Second and third grades: “You Never had a Friend Like Me!” – Teamwork is what theater is all about. Students will learn to work together to “act out” songs. This class runs Tuesday evenings from 5:30-6:45 p.m. from April 17 through May 22. Cost is $75.
• Fourth through sixth grades — Rockin’ it with “School House Rock” – This helped us learn about conjunctions and prepositions, but it also is a rockin’ play. Using songs and scenes from “School House Rock,” students will learn vocal techniques and choreography – then put it all together. This class runs from 5:15-6:45 p.m. Thursday from April 19 through May 24. Cost is $90.
• Sixth through 12th grades — Improv and Physical Comedy – The art of improv is at the base of acting. The class runs from 5:15-6:45 p.m. Monday from April 16 through May 21. Cost is $105.
