Lake Michigan College’s Bertrand Crossing Campus has moved its Youth Robotics Program to the newly renovated Eastside Connections School, 314 N. 14th St. in Niles, and will hold an open house for the public to tour the robotics studio from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today.
The program is for children ages 6 to 15 and offers seven classes and clubs that take place during the school year.
Students will learn how to build and program robots and in some cases, prepare them for robotics competitions.
Information about summer camps will also be available at the open house.
The robotics program has been offered since the fall of 2008 at the LMC Bertrand Crossing Campus.
When the former Eastside Elementary School re-opened, the college partnered with Niles Community Schools to take over the former library, which is not being used by other classes.
Robotics students now have a much bigger space for projects.
Local donors have provided hundreds of hours of volunteer time, equipment and scholarship money to make the move possible.
“Niles Community Schools Board of Education and Supt. Richard Weigel have been gracious and creative, as have the teachers and staff at Eastside,” said Barbara Craig, executive dean at the LMC Bertrand Crossing Campus.
To attend the open house, RSVP by calling (269) 695-1391.
