Lakeland HealthCare offers free, heart-related classes in March

‘Eating Right for a Healthy Heart’

Lakeland HealthCare will present “Eating Right for a Healthy Heart” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in the Community Room at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, 1234 Napier Ave., St. Joseph, and 6 p.m.  Monday, March 5, in the small dining room at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, 31 N. St. Joseph Ave., Niles.

During the free programs, a registered dietitian will discuss how better food habits can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, and give participants tips on following the American Heart Association’s eating plan.

Learn to recognize heart  attack signs

Lakeland HealthCare will present “Act in Time…To Heart Attack Signs” at 6:30 p.m.  Tuesday, March 6, at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, 31 N. St. Joseph Ave., Niles.

At this free class, participants will learn vital information about the signs of a heart attack including:

• How the heart functions

• What is a heart attack?

• Heart attack warning signs

• The importance of rapid treatment for heart attack (Calling 9-1-1)

• What to do if warning signs happen

• How to reduce your risk of heart disease
