Robert C. White, 91, of Naples, Fla., passed away peacefully Saturday Jan. 28, 2012, at age 91. He was a gracious, humble man and those who knew him will miss his playful wink and respectful salute.
Born on Aug 26, 1920, in Niles, Bob was the son of Stuart B. and Marjorie (Atkinson) White.
Bob served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a proud graduate of both Yale and Harvard universities.
He and wife, Edith, raised their family in the Detroit area, where Bob held the position of assistant treasurer with the Ford Motor Co.
While living in Detroit, Bob and Edith expressed their faith during regularly attended Sunday service at Westminster Church.
After retiring from Ford, Bob worked in Washington D.C. for the Howard Hughes Medical Foundation. He later resided at the Wyndemere community in Naples, and continued to serve on the board of directors of several large investment firms.
Bob later resided at Bentley Village, a retirement community in Naples. He care and kindness he received there will always be remembered and appreciated. During his years in Naples, Bob was a regular member of the Moorings Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith (Wiltshire), who was raised in rural Virginia near Richmond, and by his brother, William.
Bob is survived by his children, Tom White of Charleston S.C., Sue Moelter of Oak Park, Ill., Judy O’Neil of Rockford, Ill., Bill White of Madison, Wis.; brother, Joseph White of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sister, Martha Penley of Niles; and grandchildren, Tim O’Connell, Michael Moelter, Bob Moelter, Kristen O’Neil and Sean O’Neil. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and the significant others of his four children.
A memorial service will be held May 6, 2012, at Elpis Christian Church in Maidens, Va., where Bob’s ashes will be laid to rest.
