Allen R. Brenner, 64, of Clinton, N.C., died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, in Clinton following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 13, 1947, in Benton Harbor to Dale Brenner and Patricia Baker.

He lived in the Niles area during high school and eventually in Canada following graduation at Michigan State University.

He was a 1965 Niles High School graduate and a 1969 graduate of Michigan State University, where he was both an academic All-American and Kodak All-American in football.

He played in the NFL for the New York Giants and then in Canada for the Hamilton Tiger Cats and other CFL teams.

He is survived by his wife, Suzi Brenner, of Clinton; sons, Ron (Barbara) Brenner, of Denver, Allen (Juliann) Brenner, of Chicago, Ben (Jennifer) Brenner, of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada; daughter, Kelly (Paul) Green, of Toronto, Canada; mother, Patricia Deeds, of Niles; brother, Terry (Debbie) Brenner, of Niles; sister, Pam (Joe) Duval, of Niles; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Brenner, on Jan. 27, 1977, and his brother, Bill Brenner, on July 19, 1978.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center.
