State Rep. Sharon Tyler on Thursday said the governor’s proposal to invest in education, public safety and roads, while continuing to push for results-driven changes, will help Michigan continue to move forward.
The governor, in his budget presentation, highlighted areas such as a 1 percent increase in education funding, a 2.5 percent increase in ongoing education funding, $119 million in general funds to ensure Michigan matches all available federal highway and transit aid, $45 million for public safety and $130 million to be placed into the state’s rainy day fund.
“Common sense is a strong driving force to get our economy going again, and appears to be working,” Tyler said. “By living within our means and measuring our areas of growth and success, we are bringing Michigan back to work.”
“My only disappointment was that agriculture was not a higher priority,” Tyler said. “Continuing the funding at the level we have is fine, but we should focus on growth. We cannot forget to invest in this growing industry and expand our opportunities. We must be innovative and not get too comfortable with where we are, or we will be left behind.”
