The Brandywine boys basketball team got upended by Berrien Springs 67-51 in a Lakeland Conference match-up Tuesday night at Brandywine.
The Shamrocks were extremely effective from behind the arc hitting five 3-pointers and even more so on defense forcing 23 turnovers from the Bobcats.
Brandywine played the Shamrocks tough in the in the early stages of the game, only trailing by seven points heading into the half. However, they were not able to match the play of the Shamrocks nearly as well early in the second half, getting outscored 17-7 in the third quarter.
Brandywine coach Nathan Knapp felt that his team’s troubles in the second and third quarters and losing the rebound battle were their downfall in the game.
“We got outworked over those two quarters and that was the biggest difference tonight. We got beat up on the boards pretty bad and that led to us giving up way to many easy shots,” he said.
Mykal Toxopeus scored 13 points and Evan Hartman posted 12 points for the Bobcats in the losing effort.
Berrien Springs’ John Williams led all scorers with 14 points (which included a thunderous two-handed jam in the third quarter) and Nick Little added 13 points all off of three point shots alone (one of which turned into a rarely seen four-point play after he got fouled while making a shot).
Coach Knapp said his team was going to work a lot harder in practice in order to get ready for its trip to Buchanan Friday night.
“We’re going to work on everything and get these guys ready to play better in pressure situations. We’ll go to work tomorrow,” he said.
