Benjamin John Hendershott Sr., 79, of Niles, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Memorial Hospital

Benjamin Hendershott Sr. was born Nov. 4, 1932, in Niles, to the late Harold Lewis and Rosa (Stuber) Hendershott.

After graduating from High School, Benjamin worked for the Kawneer Corporation and retired from Michigan Highway Department of Transportation.

He was a lifelong member of the Edwardsburg Conservation Club, Sons of the American Legion, North American Hunting Club, Associate member of Fraternal Order of Police, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Associate Citizen of Michigan Sheriffs Association, Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Benjamin John Hendershott Jr.; and brother, Harold Hendershott.

Benjamin is survived by two daughters, Betty (Marty) Pace of Edwardsburg and Brenda Owens of Nappanee, Ind.; a sister, Rosemary Jones of Tekonsha, Mich.; six grandchildren; Benjamin John Ballge, Nicholas Ryan Pace, Cassandra (Rob) French, Ian Michael Owens, Isaac James Owens and Brendan Jon Volk; one great-grandchild, Aiden Elizabeth French and his significant other, Sonja Hover.

Services for Benjamin will be held Sunday, Jan. 29, at 3 p.m. in Brown Funeral Home, Niles, with a time of visitation starting at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mike Smith performing the services.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Benjamin’s memory to the American Legion Home for Veterans, 5500 Armstrong Rd., Battle Creek, Mich.
