No one was injured in a house fire at 634 S. Third St., Niles, early Monday evening.
According to Niles Fire Chief Larry Lamb, the Niles and Niles Township fire departments arrived shortly before 5 p.m. to “heavy fire” coming out of the rear of the two-story home.
The home’s occupants escaped before firefighters arrived.
Lamb said firefighters “knocked the fire down fairly quick” — within about 10 minutes.
The rear of the home sustained structural damage. An estimated 30 percent of the home has some heat and smoke damage.
“The main structure is in good shape,” Lamb said.
The homeowners’ names were not immediately available, but Lamb said they have lived in the home for 25 years.
The Niles police and fire departments are investigating the cause of the fire. Lamb said they do not believe it was intentionally set.
