Brandywine streak now 32

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The streak continues.

The Brandywine girls’ basketball team won its 32nd consecutive Lakeland Conference game Thursday night as it defeated host Berrien Springs 61-40.

The win improved the Bobcats to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

Brandywine used eight of its 11 3-points in the first half to build a 40-18 advantage after two quarters of play. From there the Bobcats coasted home with the victory.

“They were really unselfish tonight,” Brandywine coach Josh Hood said. “I thought that was about as unselfish an effort as I have seen.”

Carlie Newman, who had a trio of 3-pointers along with Brooke Smith, finished with a game-high 26 points. Smith contributed 13 points to the winning effort.

“Carlie had a great night,” Hood said. “She also had nine steals and six assists. Mackenzie did a great job of penetrating and getting people the ball. She finished with 10 assists.”

BUCHANAN — Erin Glavin and Amanda Anglero combined for 19 of Buchanan’s 30 points Thursday night in a Lakeland Conference girls’ basketball victory.

The Bucks improved to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the league with the 30-21 win over the Bees, who dip to 0-5 and 0-3 in conference play.

Glavin scored 10 points, Anglero nine and Maddison Prillwitz six.

Sam Wagner led Bridgman with 12 points.
