The Berrien County Dancers will hold its Winter Dance Concert Dec. 16-17 at 7 p.m. in the
Lakeshore Community Auditorium, 5771 Cleveland Ave., in Stevensville. Tickets go on sale Monday. Reserved seating tickets for all ages, available only in advance, are $10. General admission tickets, for ages 4 and older, are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Reserve tickets at (269) 428-1402 ext. 2099.
The concert will feature the works of Theresa Graziano, artistic director of BCD, and guest choreographer, Randy Duncan, as well as several student choreographers, including Berrien Springs High School junior Isabella Schmidt.
Duncan, a world-renowned choreographer and teacher from Chicago, conducted a weeklong residency for BCD students earlier this semester. Joffrey Ballet co-founder, Gerald Arpino, describes
Duncan as “an innovative artist with an original style … one of the most exciting young American choreographers of today.” Using elements of ballet, jazz, African and modern dance, Duncan has created works for companies such as the Joffrey Ballet, River North Chicago Dance Company, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and Bat Dor Dance Company of Israel. His credits also include choreography for musical theater and film.
Students performing in the BCD Winter Concert represent Lakeshore, Berrien Springs, Michigan Lutheran and St. Joseph high schools.
Proceeds will help fund BCD’s upcoming weeklong residency with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
Scheduled for the week of March 19-24, the residency will include daily instruction for BCD students as well as community master classes and a public performance by Hubbard Street.
