Marcia Annabelle “Annie” Marlin, 91, of Fort Street in Niles, died at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Silverbrook Manor in Niles following an illness.
She was born Sept. 18, 1920 in Auburn, Neb. to Jesse B. and Lettie Ann (Bachalder) Marlin. She graduated from Niles High School in 1938, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant. She was employed by Refiner’s Terminal Transport, and retired to Florida, returning to Niles in 1996.
Annie was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Niles, the B.P.O. of Niles Elks 1322 and American Legion Post 26, Niles. She was an avid and outstanding bowler, and was inducted as a member of the Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Don Marlin in 1979; and sisters, Kathleen Marlin in 1948 and Mary Lee Coplen in 2007.
Annie is survived by her companion and best friend, Evelyn Hardebeck of Niles; a niece, Lettie Ann Marquis of Niles; nephews, Mike Coplen of South Bend and Chris Marlin of Washington, D.C.; and many extended family and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Marcia A. Marlin will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Niles, by the Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C. of the parish.
Committal rites will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles, and will conclude with the veteran’s flag presentation and taps by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with recitation of the Rosary by Brother Dennis Meyers, C.S.C. at 7 p.m.
Contributions in memory of Annie Marlin may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
