Brandywine wins finale 30-6

THREE OAKS — Visiting Brandywine used a pair of touchdowns from Courtlan Gordon to finish the season on a high note and with a winning record.

The Bobcats defeated River Valley 30-6 to end the 2011 campaign at 5-4.

Gordon, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards this season, finished the game with 201 yards on 34 carries. He scored on runs of 6 and 7 yards.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first as Andrew Duckett connected with Austin Bertschy on a 7-yard scoring toss. Brandywine failed on its 2-point conversion, but led 6-0.

River Valley (1-8) tied the score at 6-6 when Jason German scored on a 3-yard run.

Gordon scored the first of his two consecutive touchdowns to give gthe Bobcats the lead for good early in the second quarter.

His 6-yard score was followed up with a Duckett to Bertschy 2-point conversion pass as Brandywine took a 14-6 lead.

Gordon scored on a 7-yard run to make it 22-6 in the third quarter following another Duckett to Bertschy conversion pass.

The Bobcats capped off the scoring with a 1-yard Michael Shelton run and a safety when Marty Ward sacked German in the end zone for a safety.

Brandywine finished the night with 256 yards rushing, while Duckett was 4-of-4 for 57 yards.

The Bobcats’ defense held the Mustangs to 194 yard in total offense. Conrad Smallmon had 15 tackles and defensive end Trevor Jones recorded 11 stops. Shelton finished with 10 tackles.
